Grantchester is an artsy kind of place and I commissioned a special project from a guy down the street to celebrate the occasion. Happy birthday, Cal!
added later: Sam saw this and told me it was too weird, so here are some less stupid pictures of Cal's early birthday party last weekend.
Balloons!
Skeptical about the cake at first....
tasted good though.
This looks like we're all sitting around laughing at him, but he was just tired.
Knocking down his new blocks.

Happy Birthday Calvin! What a momentous occasion. It's been great following your first year's exploits on the blog, and I'm excited to see what you have in store for the next one.
Happy Birthday Calvin!!! It's still the 2nd here on the West Coast, but good thing your parents reminded me :). I've loved keeping up with you guys this past year, and can tell you there is a lot more fun in store for year 2!
this is the best blog post ever
Happy Birthday Calvin! Was that a train cake? Awesome. For what it is worth Nick, I didn't think it was too weird.
I am a fan of the Three Moeckel Moon. Hopefully the t-shirts will hit the US soon.
OK guys, we're slightly deficient in the memory category. One year? Wow. A great big shout out to Calvin for an astonishing year. Go big fella! While we're at it, let's hear it for Calvin's parents and Calvin's grandparents. It's been a complete team effort. Congratulations, Happy Birthday and Best Wishes for the coming year. Tripp and Dan
Happy Birthday Cal. What a handsome young lad you are. Isn't chocolate cake the best?
